Who is Jesus?

Biblically, Jesus is the central figure of the New Testament and arguably the most important person in all of Scripture. Here’s who the Bible presents Him as:

Jesus is God Incarnate

The Bible teaches that Jesus is God who became human. John 1:1, 14 states: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God… The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us.” Jesus is fully God and fully human—a concept called the Incarnation.

The Son of God

Jesus is the second person of the Trinity, the eternal Son of God. At His baptism, God the Father declared: “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased” (Matthew 3:17).

The Messiah (Christ)

Jesus is the long-awaited Messiah prophesied throughout the Old Testament—the anointed one who would save God’s people. “Christ” is the Greek translation of the Hebrew “Messiah.”

The Savior and Redeemer

Jesus came to save humanity from sin and its consequences. He lived a sinless life, died on the cross as a sacrifice for human sin, and rose from the dead three days later. This provides the way for people to be reconciled to God (John 3:16, Romans 5:8).

Prophet, Priest, and King

Jesus fulfills three key roles:

  • Prophet – revealing God’s truth
  • Priest – mediating between God and humanity
  • King – ruling over God’s kingdom

The Only Way to God

Jesus claimed exclusivity: “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6).

Historical Figure

Jesus of Nazareth was a real historical person who lived in first-century Palestine, taught, performed miracles, was crucified under Pontius Pilate, and whose followers claimed He rose from the dead.

The Return

The Bible teaches Jesus will return to judge the living and the dead and establish God’s eternal kingdom.
